The National President of Nigeria co-operative Women Alliance (NICOWA)
Dr Esther Eka has urged women in the country to see themselves as agent
of peace, stability and progress in their respective communities.
She made the call in Abuja during a chat with journalists saying that women had God-given talents to be agents of peace and positive change.
She appealed to them to use their talents to contribute to national development.
“The roles of women are greatly appreciated in our various religions. I urge Nigerian women to intensify prayers for our families as well as for the peace and development of the nation.’’
Chief Eka urged women to re-dedicate themselves to selfless service, tolerance, good neighbourliness and justice.
“The unfolding violence and agitation across the country have the potential to rob us of our peace and capable of tainting our timeless traditional and religious pristine values”.
“Women by the special creation of the Almighty God are naturally gifted with virtues such as intuition, wisdom; patience, vision, perseverance, kindness and courage which aid us in effectively fulfilling the role of peace building in the society” she said.
Emphasising the religion of both Christianity and Islam she said they are religion of peace that forbids violence, killing of innocent people as well as gender discrimination, Chief Eka said “women must become promoters of ethics, values and norms”.
She urged women to act as Peace Corps at the home front, neighbourhood and community.
