The Kano State Government said it had approved N400 million as
scholarship for its students in tertiary institutions across the
country.
The Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Alhaji Usman Ririwai, said this in an in Kano.
He said 25,373 students admitted under the 2011/2012 academic session would benefit from the grant.
``We have interviewed the students and the state government has approved N400 million for the payment of their allowances.
``As soon as the money is released, we shall start the payment’’, Ririwai said.
He also said that the board had paid N360 million to 23,700 students
studying in 42 higher institutions of learning across the country.
``In addition, the board has commenced sales of application forms for students admitted for the 2012/2013 academic session.’’
According to him, the state government has spent more than N2billion
on the payment of scholarship to 112,911 internal students within the
last three years.
On foreign students, Ririwai said the government had spent N3.2
billion on the payment of scholarship to 2,000 students in13 countries
in the last two years.
``The best and wisest investment is in education and that's what
Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso is doing since he came into office on May 29,
2011.
``We want to make sure that we have a large pool of manpower for the need of the state and even beyond’’, he added.
