Fasheun Files N10 Billion Libel Suit Against Gani Adams

The longstanding feud between two factional leaders of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has taken a legal turn, with Fredrick Fasheun, the septuagenarian leader of one faction filing a N10 billion lawsuit against Gani Adams, the leader of the OPC’s other faction.

A lawyer familiar with the case told Saharareporters that the N10 billion suit arose from an alleged libelous statement made by Mr. Adams in an interview he granted to The News magazine a couple of months ago.
In the interview, Mr. Adams had reportedly accused Mr. Fasheun of being “a mole” inside the OPC.
In a brief chat with SaharaReporters, Mr. Fasheun confirmed the lawsuit, but said he was in no position to make further comments on the case since it was already in court. But a lawyer involved in the case told our correspondent that Mr. Fasheun was particularly angered that Mr. Adams also alleged in the interview that his rival, Mr. Fasheun, had also incited the police to kill 300 members of the OPC.

When contacted by SaharaReporters, Mr. Adams said he had not been served any court papers regarding the case. “Once I receive the court papers, I will respond robustly,” he said.
