17 Dead, 10 Injured as Road accident occured in Kwara

 No less than 17 people, all said to be adult men, perished in a terrible car crash incident on the Ilorin-New Jebba Road on Friday, October 11. The accident left many injured.

At about 3.30 am, a petrol tanker (registration number CD 762 KMT) rammed into two Toyota Hummer buses (reg. №№ TAK 113 XA and XD 762 KMT) at Peke Village, which is about 16 kilometres from Ilorin, Kwara State.

The tanker with its two occupants was allegedly heading towards Lagos. The two buses were each conveying 19 passengers from Lagos to Katsina State.
The Kwara State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Mary Wakawa, confirmed the accident. She said the 17 bodies of the deceased men were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, adding that those who sustained injuries (about 10 people) were rushed to local hospitals.
The accidents were said to have occurred at the spot near the end of the dualised road.
Goods worth millions of naira were also lost.
Mrs. Wakawa advised people against night travels, over-speeding and driving when not feeling well.
 
"It is sad that such accident occurred close to Sallah celebrations. A situation where celebration is around the corner and you witness such huge fatalities is very sad," she added.
