Two traders, who engaged in a public fight over N36,000, were on Monday arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court over alleged affray.
The traders, Elijah Friday, 32, and Ogbefu Festus, 32, whose addresses were not given, are each facing trial on a charge of affray.
The prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 11 at 6.30 p.m. at the premises of the State Universal Basic Education Board on Oda Road, Akure.
"They engaged each other in a public fight over N36,000," he said.
Adejuwon said that the offence contravened Section 83 of the Criminal Code Cap C37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The traders both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Olubukola Kuye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.
Kuye, who directed that the surety must reside in the magisterial district, adjourned the case till Feb. 5 for hearing.
