Two suspected of a four-man armed robbery gang killed in Jigawa

Waterloo-1

TWO suspected members of a four-man armed robbery gang Wednesday met their waterloo when they engaged the anti-robbery squad unit in a gun duel along Kano/Ringim Road.
The Jigawa State Police Commissioner, Kayode Theophilus, who made the disclosure while displaying the bodies and exhibits at the police headquarters in Dutse, said the combined team of the police Anti-robbery Squad, the IGP Monitoring Unit with the assistance of Ali Kwara, gunned down two of the suspected armed men while two others escaped with bullet wounds.
Theophilus said its new strategy for the end-of-year to combat crime and criminality during the Yuletide is paying off.

He said based on information from one of the gang members, who has repented and joined Ali Kwara at about 5am, his men accosted and engaged the robbers.
He said the informant hinted that the Honda Accord car used by the gang to rob a bank in Dutse was snatched in Abuja.
According to him, when the car was spotted heading towards Dutse and the gang noticed that they were being trailed, they opened fire on the police.
Continuing, he said in the ensuing gun duel, two of the gang members were killed while the others sustained injuries but escaped.

Items recovered included, one AK 47 riffle with registration number 76286, two-locally made pistol, 73 live ammunition and eight live cartridges. Other exhibits included the sum of N148,520, one Techno GSM handset and the saloon car.
He said the police needed the help of the public for information on suspected criminals to help it rid the state of crimes. “We will continue to solicit from the public vital information, which will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” he said.
