Super Eagles Midfielder Mikel Set For 48th Champions League Game


Super Eagles midfielder,Mikel Obi is set to play his 48th UEFA Champions League game when Chelsea face Steaua Bucharest tonight in a make or mar match.

The Nigerian made his debut in the competition on September 12,2006,playing all 90 minutes in the Blues' 2-0 defeat of German Bundesliga side,Werder Bremen at Stamford Bridge.

That same season,Mikel featured in eight more Champions League games for Jose Mourinho's team.

The following season was not as rosy as the first as the Nigerian could only manage four appearances while in the 2008/2009 season,he stormed back to reckoning as he featured in nine Champions League games.

The 2009/2010 season proved not to be as good as the preceding season in Europe for Mikel as he featured only in four games and added two more to the tally the following season.

Mikel bounced back in the 2011/2012 season,featuring nine times as the Blues romped to victory,beating Bayern Munich in the final to win the trophy for the first time in tthe club's history.

Last season Mikel featured only five times as Chelsea failed to make it to the group stage,dropping to the UEFA Europa League which they won
