MultiChoice Nigeria, the Pay TV giant, unveiled its colourful 20th
anniversary logo at an event held in Lagos on Friday, August 2.
The eye-catching anniversary
logo, designed by Kanso Ogbolu, is the winner of the special logo
competition MultiChoice had initiated in June to kick start activities
to mark the 20th anniversary celebration.
Present at intimate
cocktail/unveiling event were: Chairman Senate Committee on Information,
Media and Public Affairs, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe; Managing Director,
MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe; Managing Director, First City
Monument Bank, FCMB, Mr. Ladi Balogun; Managing Director, Zenith Bank,
Mr. Godwin Emefiele, members of the press and other guests.
Addressing the gathering, John
Ugbe stated that in the last 20 years, the company had not relented in
its efforts at exporting the country’s innovation globally.
‘’When we introduced mobile
digital TV in Nigeria, It was the first in Africa. Our story in these 20
years of operation has not just been about bringing international
content to Nigeria, rather we have also been taking Nigeria’s innovation
to the rest of the world. This event is to unveil the 20th anniversary
logo and honour all those who have been part of our success story”, he
added.
Beating 16,999 other entries to
clinch the prize, 27-year-old Kanso Ogbolu’s clever twirl of a
celebratory ribbon to shape ‘20’, incorporates the MultiChoice logo,
colours, Pan-African roots and Nigeria’s rich green-white-green national
colours, while also reflecting the Pay TV company’s commitment to
family entertainment.
For his artistic and innovative
creation, MultiChoice rewarded Ogbolu with a prize of N1m and one year
free DStv subscription. First runner-up, Gabriel Efe won the sum of
N500,000 and six months free DStv subscription, while second runner-up
Oguntobi Ayoola went home with N250,000, a DSTV decoder and three months
free DStv subscription.
Explaining the process of
developing the 20th anniversary logo, the MultiChoice boss, said, “when
we wanted to put up a logo, the normal thing would have been to invite
our agencies and brief them to bring us a logo. But because we see
innovation locally and also the strength of the Nigerian, we had to put
up the competition. We were overwhelmed by the 17,000 entries we
received”.
To entertain guests at the
cocktail, Sax Dude, the enchanting saxophonist serenaded at intervals
with classic/contemporary foreign and local music to the delight of his
audience.
